Will you send me detailed information before my stay?
Yes. If you book through Canopy and Stars
you will get a confirmation email immediately. About 10 days before your stay you will receive a detailed email from Kate at West Moss-side, with confirmation of your party and information about your stay, detailed travel directions and an invitation to pre-order produce.
What changes have you made to the accommodation as a result of Covid-19?
In winter 2020 we built an additional kitchen so that guests in Stuc a’ Chroin and Ben Lomond each have exclusive use of the bathroom and kitchen facilities. Ben Ledi can also be booked together with Ben Lomond and so the two groups share the bathroom and kitchen. We think our guests appreciate having exclusive use of the facilities so this arrangement will stay.
What facilities do all the Trossachs Yurts have?
Each yurt is exactly the same except for the colour scheme. There is one double bed and a second futon double bed if needed (otherwise it is a sofa). A third fold down floor mattress is available for an extra sleep. There is a wood burning stove with an oven and a basket of logs and all you need to light the fire.
Do we need to bring bed linen?
No, all your beds will be made up with crisp white linen ready for your arrival.
Do we need to bring towels?
Yes, please bring towels. There is a heated towel rail in your bathroom to keep them dry and warm.
Are there any provisions in the yurt?
Yes there is tea, coffee (instant and ground), sugar, salt, pepper and olive oil.
Is there a kitchen in the yurt?
There is a small ‘kitchen’ area with a two-ring gas burner and all the cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery that you will need including a cafetiere! You have a separate fitted kitchen in the big green shed which has all the electrical appliances – fridge, microwave, hot water for washing up, toaster and kettle.
Is there electricity in the yurt?
No – you are off-grid, so lighting is by solar and battery – please bring extra torches. Sockets for re-charging mobile phones etc are in the kitchen.
Is there a bathroom in the yurt?
No there isn’t, but each yurt has its own private bathroom which is in the farm steading adjacent to the West Moss-side Centre.
How big is the yurt?
It is a traditional 18 foot diameter Krgyk yurt with a generous all-surround decking with a picnic bench and a barbeque.
Do you have a baby cot?
Sorry but no we don’t, but there is plenty of room for a travel cot.
Which Yurt welcomes pets?
Ben Lomond yurt welcomes a maximum of two dogs, the cost is £30.00 per dog per stay which includes a welcome pack.
Can you recommend a dog-friendly restaurant?
Yes. The Lion and the Unicorn in Thornhill village – just over one mile away. You will be welcome to eat in the Public bar where tables set out.
What time can we check in?
Anytime after 3.00pm but please let us know your expected arrival time.
What time is check-out?
Please can you be all packed up by 10.00am.
What animals are there on the farm?
I have a small herd of rare breed Shetland cattle.
Can we buy produce from the farm?
Yes you can pre-order organic Shetland beef – steaks, burgers (GF) or sausages (GF)
for the barbeque. Or perhaps you would like to make a casserole with stewing steak or braising steak and cook it in the wood burning stove oven. Imagine the aroma in the cosy yurt!
Depending on the time of year there may also be organic vegetables from the farmhouse garden. Mad Hare Apiary honey is for sale from my neighbour.
Which yurt is suitable for those with limited mobility?
Stuc a’Chroin is the closest to the facilities and the carpark it does not have any steps.
One bathroom is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
